Asa Wright Nature Center & Caroni Bird Sanctuary
Beginning on the foothills of the North East region of the Northern Range, your journey takes you through the lush and green Arima Valley where the Asa Wright Nature Center is located. At this Center, you have over one hundred and seventy species of birds sighted and recorded.
Nature trails surround the Old Colonial Style Plantation house where tours are conducted on a daily basis. Two hundred acres of conservation area, it is a Wildlife Sanctuary situated on an elevation of 1200 feet above sea level.
Lunch is served on the Lazy Suzie Dining Table at the Old Plantation Restaurant with a variety of local cuisine from which to choose.
Down the slopes to the contrast of the Caroni Plains in the North West of the island you have the Caroni Bird Sanctuary, the home of our national bird the Scarlet Ibis. Board the Swamp Boats and led by a Specialized Tour guide you gently float along the waterways of the Caroni Swamp where there are over 120 species of birds and exotic reptiles and other animals of the area.
